Excerpt: Geometry of Shadows

IN WHAT AMOUNTED to a handful of heartbeats, her life changed. Changed irrevocably. Of that, Daria had no doubt. She only had to look around her to know she was no longer in Kansas. Well, okay, so she had never lived in Kansas to begin with, but that was beside the point. She was also sure she hadn't gone over the rainbow either.

Where she was, however, was the least of her troubles, as Daria scratched her head and looked about her. She had, apparently, temporarily lost her faculty to remember, well, clearly that is. There was something, just there, like the proverbial word lingering on the tip of the tongue. But she couldn’t quite reach it. What she could reach, she saw, was up ahead.
