Synopsis:
In a world where magic is painful and gods are trees, a girl and a formerly dead saint set out on something resembling a quest.
Excerpt:
Tiburon knelt at the roots of his god.
"I water you with rain," he chanted, pouring a pitcher of collected rainwater on the earth between the tree's roots. "I water you with blood," and cut his palm without wincing to spill blood on the damp ground. "I water you with secrets." He lifted the paper he had brought with him, drew his magic through him despite the almost unbearable agony and made the ink on the paper fresh, so that the words ran together and dripped black to the bloodstained ground.
