Excerpt: Scarred

That’s when in all started, the horses screams, the metal armor of the guards being assembled, banging of doors, the weathers howls and screams and then the weeping and high pitch screams of women, Lina sat frozen in the covers gripping Bear once more while Oscar and Hermit’s hackles rose and they growled and hissed in unison ready to protect her if need arose.
Something bad had happened, for so much noise all she could hear now was the raging storm and the weeping of the women, she grew cold with fear as she slipped out of the bed, stopping and shaking before taking an unsteady step towards the door and to what horror lay outside.
“Lina don’t go!” Oscar almost howled, no longer scared of the storm.
“It is not safe little one” Hermit said equally on guard.

Lina was to terrified to speak she just shook her head and moved onwards, she could not recall even in years past how she had managed through the castle the whole night was a blur in her memory but she may not remember how she followed the weeping but she never forget the vision that she saw at the castle front doors, servants, ladies, knights and lords all stood around either white in shock or weeping heads in hands.
She somehow made it through them and stood in the entry way looking out, no one had noticed her until she had started screaming, some say that she howled like no other that they had heard before, her grief was raw and her sorrow deep, the whispers where that after the Queen had rushed to her nieces aid it took her months to recover, and no wonder as no one would wish any child be cursed enough to see her parents in such a state but Lina had and never will forget the sight of her parents murdered and mutilated bodies.
