The Ugly Clock
an excerpt
Harold Reginald Hatfield Aegis's Great Aunt Hazel Delia Henrietta Dobbs shuffled off her mortal coil quietly in her sleep. She was like any other Aunt or rather, great Aunt; old, smelling of mothballs and dressed in varied and unusual clothing from another era or two back. She had been sleeping on a lumpy mattress for years; lumpy due to the money and weird trinkets she squirreled away. Since it was surrounded by a house filled with the weird, useless or grotesque, money and jewelry in the mattress was not expected; and since it hadn’t occurred to any15-year-old drug-deprived punks to robbed her, the mattress was bursting at the seams.
