Excerpt: Blood
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lately, the blood has become my religion. When the light finally makes haste and leaves the rabid alleys and streets of the places I tread, the blood remains as the last clean signifier.
When it throbs through the veins of the living, it sounds loudly like a drum aching to beat its way out of its paper thin barricades. Anyone putting their ear to a loved-one’s chest or inner wrist can hear this...the heart will beat around 100,000 times in one day, 35million times in a year, and maybe 3 billion times in a lifetime.
It’s not the drummer that tires when the body expires. Life doesn’t stop at the last beat of this drum; the thing instigating the sound, much like the drummers tool, will always remain. And i have the power to see it.
