About featherquil

Location: Hollins University, Roanoke, VA, USA

Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/~Tsona

Favorite novels: Harry Potter, Young Wizards, The Dark Is Rising... are you sensing the pattern? The Mortal Instruments series is also working its way onto this list. Also Pride and Prejudice, Shakespeare (though I suppose those aren't novels per se)....

Favorite music: Anything familiar; I keep my iTunes on shuffle. New music takes too much brain power and concentration and talk confuses and distracts me.

Synopsis:

This year, I have been forbidden, my stress level being too high, from participating in Nano. But that won't stop me writing. I decided to use the Nano site to see how many words I write generally in the month of November, without the pressure of competition. This is purely for my own curiosity. Only realize, my word count will not be the no-editing writing style of Nano-ing. A lot of what I do is edit. But I will only include new scenes and stories in this count.

Excerpt:

This is the first paragraph from a fanfiction I wrote in the first two days of Nano:

The rain thundered down on the umbrella sending cascades off the edges, streaks of silver that lit her way as she hurried, back bent, shoulders in, head down against the wind that pressed the umbrella back into her hand, that threatened to whip it from her, or at the very least turn it inside out. It was a wild night, a dark night. But beautiful too, with the pavement gleaming in the light of the lamps, the rain glittering, the lights themselves surrounded by a soft, misty glow, and the sound of the rain against the rooftops, a pleasant white noise, a whisper, like a boy’s voice, like sheets rustling as he rolled toward her--

A bit of my original novel:

Could people really believe Vofa was not god? What did they believe in, then? What else could there be? did they think there could be?

“You helped bury him,” Veil remembered.

“Yes, I did. And it was trying, let me tell you.”

“Where?”

“Where?”

“Where?”

“In the cemetary outside the city. Aharon was all for putting him in the monastery plot, but I wouldn’t let him.”

“That’s a long way from here.”

“Not so very far. A half an hour’s ride in a cart.”

But it was far-- terribly far for Veil, who had never seen the outside of the monastery walls.
