Black, White, and Gay
an excerpt

Chapter 1
“Beep, Beep, Beep” That was her wakeup call.
“5 more minutes mom” she said before remembering she was on her own now. She was finally 18 and living on her own. Her name was Heather Jones and she had finally made it out of her parents house. This was her life now. 7am woken up by an alarm clock, not mom pulling off the blanket.
She rolled out of bed wishing she didn’t have to get up. She climbed into the shower and greatly enjoyed the feeling of warm water on her cold body. She had slept in a cold room since she was 13, and that wasn’t going to change now. She washed her newly dyed black hair and scrubbed up with her cucumber melon body wash. Heather loved her new apartment. She lived right outside of college town where apartments started to become more city-like and less suburb-like. She liked the city, always had. The suburbs were too quiet and quaint for her upbeat, party all the time attitude.
She climber out of the shower and wrapped her towel around her body. She wrapped a second towel around her hair and cleared the mirror with her wash cloth.
“Good Morning!” she said to her reflection sounding more chipper than she intended. She continued to dry off as she walked back to her bedroom, dropping the towel at the door. She put on a black lace bra, and a pair of pink panties. She pulled her thin black sweater over her head, and slipped on her favorite jeans. She took her hair out of the second towel and through the towel on the floor with the other one before returning to the bathroom. She brushed her long black hair and pulled it up into a simple messy bun. Her bangs fell just below her eyes. She clipped them back and grabbed her makeup bag out the cabinet behind the mirror. She spilled it’s contents onto the small counter top and began her 10 minute process of makeup. She let her hair out of the bun, and brushed back through it before grabbing her keys and her purse and heading out the door.

Chapter 2
Jackie got to the bus station just in time to see the bus pulling away. Her brown skin was glowing in the sunlight while her white suit added a nice contrast. She was on her way to a job interview across town. “Damn it!” she yelled to the sky not expecting a response.
“What’s wrong hun?” Heather said walking up to Jackie. Jackie was a very beautiful 20 year old girl still stuck in her parents house. She had just graduated from a 2-year college and desperately needed a new job. She had lost her last job as a waitress at the only nearby restaurant when she fell asleep working the night shift.
“Nothing I want to talk to you about,” Jackie said angrily as she sat down on a bench.
“You don’t even know me, how do you know I won’t be able to help?” Heather asked sitting down on the bench next to Jackie.
“I’m running late for a job interview, and I just missed the bus.”
“See, what do you know? I can help! My car’s parked outside, where do you need to go to?” Heather asked.
“If you have a car why are you at the bus station?”
“I just came in to get a cup of coffee. There’s an amazing shop here.” Heather said handing Jackie coffee, “Here try a sip!”
“Wow, this stuff is amazing!” Jackie exclaimed taking a sip.
“I know. We better get going if you’re going to make that job interview, and I’m going to be on time for class.” Heather standing up and holding out her hand for Jackie.
“You’re still in high school?” Jackie asked taking hold of Heather’s hand and standing up then abruptly letting go.
“God no,” Heather said with a giggle. “I’m actually a college sophomore. I graduated high school a year early and I’m off in the land of university.”
“That’s awesome.” Jackie said as the reached the car and got in. “I graduated from a 2 year college last year with a technological degree. I’m Jackie by the way, and you are?”
“Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Heather.”
“Nice to meet you.”
