Monster
an excerpt

“Delilah.” He said her name like he hadn’t been expecting to see her, but he had asked her to come over. She wasn’t early or anything. His flustered look puzzled her. He was just about the opposite of Benjy which made their friendship so interesting. About the only thing they had that was similar was their tall height, but where Benjy was slender, Moseph was broad shouldered and large boned. He was pale with narrow blue eyes and he kept his head carefully shaved although most days, he covered his head with a cap of some form or another. Today was not one of those days.

She decided to mimic his one word greeting. “Moseph.”

“You’re earlier than I thought you would be,” he said as he inched out the door, which was a very difficult task for him being so much larger than her and her standing so close to the entrance of his room.

“Actually, I’m late.”

“Oh.” Another one word response. He was hiding something. He wouldn’t even look her in the eyes.

“What’s going on Moseph? What do you have in there that you don’t want me to see?”

“Nothing.”

“Nothing? Really?” She prodded him. “I thought I heard a woman.” He didn’t respond. “You don’t have to hide it if it was a woman. I mean, it’s okay. I wouldn’t care or anything. You’re like a brother to me,” she added hurriedly and she felt a blush rise to her cheeks.

“I don’t know what you could have heard,” he said slowly. Click. He closed the door behind him.

“You do realize that you have to be the worst liar that ever walked this realm right?” She attempted to reach around him to grab the doorknob.

“No.” He caught her wrist. “No,” he repeated firmly.

She yanked her wrist away, irritated, and took two steps backwards so that her back was up against the wall. She crossed her arms over her chest. “Fine, I’ll wait.”

“Delilah, you know how I feel about my privacy. Can you please just give me this?”

She sighed. She was being unfair. He deserved his space. She didn’t have to like it, but she could deal. Just because she was nosy didn’t mean that she couldn’t control herself. Moseph was a grown man. If he felt like he had to hide something or someone from her that was fine. Kind of. So, in reality, she hated it, but she wasn’t going to say that out loud. “Fine,” she relented. “Where are we going?”

“Hollywood Cemetery.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Why?”

“Because I found graves.”

She blinked at him. “Really?” she asked, her voice thick with sarcasm. “You found graves.” Was it possible that he was going crazy?

“No, I found new graves. They probably haven’t been there for more than a week or so.”

“So, some people died and their friends and family buried them there. That isn’t anything new.” She was getting tired of this and she let her aggravation show. She had too much to be stressed about with her new wolfie friends and she was frustrated with him already. He needed to hurry up and get to some sort of point.

“What if I said there were a few hundred new graves?”

Delilah’s mouth dropped. “What?”

“I’m guessing at least three hundred. Probably more. We definitely haven’t had that many people die. We would have known. I tracked the remnants of a temporary rip. I think the immortals put them there.”

Without another wasted moment, Delilah headed towards the door. “Let’s go,” she demanded.
