“Cassian,” the giant finally broke the silence, “when was the last time you regretted a murder?”
The question surprised him. Cassian thought back. “About two years ago.”
“Who?”
“I don't know. A little girl.”
“What did she look like?” Emir pressed, no longer swaying.
Cassian blinked. “Uh... blonde pigtails... blue eyes...”
“Cream ears and tail? Darker tips?”
Cassian paused. “Yes...”
“Killed in her playroom?”
“Yeah.”
Emir was quiet for a few seconds.
“That, Cassian,” he said, “was my daughter.”
