an excerpt
His eyes flashed like lightning in the night; his breath searing his lungs with every stride, as he ran from they who pursued him. He paused for a moment, amid a thicket of trees, his face a pale contrast to the dark mop of hair that had been whipped about by the woods and the night. He cocked his head, his skin reflecting the damp glow of the half moon; his ears leaning toward every sound from the darkness around him, and his eyes watchful of the path from which he had come.
And then, he darted off again, his steps as silent as impending death, on the rotting autumn leaves that carpeted the woods. His mission was clear, his thoughts pounding like his heart:
“They must not find the child,” they said. “They must not find her...”
Startled, he felt the arrow whip past his ear, before he saw their bitter faces; before he knew that it was too late for him.
He was trapped.
