Keira Odaris was in a world of pain. The wound in her shoulder had faded to a dull roar but that was only because the shrapnel in her side was clamouring for her attention. Her ears rang with the sound of the alert klaxon as it continually bleated and howled within the heavily damaged cockpit of Keira’s small freighter. A brief glance at the diagnostics screen told her the worst of it; the ship was lost. It was just a matter of time.
