Synopsis: Gods Don't Play Fair

Things rarely went right for James. His apartment sucked, his car was so bad thieves brought it back, and his job was no where near as cool as his best friend's. But then a new girl starts work at the office, and she's actually interested in James. His mom, who hasn't gone on a date since James' father left her before James was born, is suddenly engaged to a very rich and powerful man. James thinks things are finally going right for his whole family.

Never mind his mom doesn't seem completely thrilled. Or that Andy, the girl of his dreams, quits coming into work one day. Or that a Kraken was recently seen at a local burger joint. And what does this guy named Hermes want anyway?

Excerpt: Gods Don't Play Fair

Zeus just wanted to nap. But there was no escaping Hera's fury once it was aroused. Well unless...he cast his eyes downward to the world. He was overdue for a pleasure trip.
“Zeus! You aren't even listening to me, you old curmudgeon!” Hera dropped the ladle and Zeus winced at the sound. “Get over here right now and look. Then tell me you haven't been peeking up any mortal's dresses.”
Zeus walked over to where Hera pointed. It was her big pot that she normally cooked the soup in. Damn fine soup it was to, part of the reason he had stuck with her through all her abuse. He looked into the soup, painfully aware that the back of his head was open to her attacks and his face was dangerously close to the hot broth.
The pearl onions and other tasty bits that made her such a successful cook began whirling around. Soon the vegetables faded into an image of a young girl Dusting shelves in one of those grocery stores the mortals started building a while back. She was fair to the eye, Zeus had to admit, but she was a little too young for his taste. Maybe once she had some time to ripen, then he could...
“Ow!” Zeus grabbed the back of his head, his nose now just a hair's breath from the soup. “What did you do that for?”
“You think I don't know that look?” She swung the ladle toward his head again. Why couldn't she have just left it on the floor?
He put his hands up and backed up a few steps. “Look, wife, I swear this is the first I've seen her, or at the very least the first I've noticed her. She is a little young for you to be so worried about it though.”
Hera spat at him. “There you go with your lies! You saw her just last week. Talked to her a fair bit too!”
Zeus stopped. Last week? What had he done last week. Oh yes! He had gone down to the mortal world to rent a few videos. At that grocery store.
