Dark Side of the Moon
an excerpt
“Why? Why now?”
Why bother asking?
There was no answer within the dark depths of those silver-blue eyes; no answer in that too-cheerful grin plastered across his face. Was there ever an answer in the first place?
Does he really think that this is just something he can smile at and brush over? How can he? Mamma...
The grin faded, leaving behind such empty, hollow eyes.
... No. He understands, but... he still has to...
“Why...?”
Pointless, to keep asking that one question. That one question without an answer.
The choice had been made, long ago. Nothing he could say, nothing he could do, would change that.
So why was he trying?
What use was it, to deny the inevitable?
So many questions... but only one he truly wanted to ask. That one question without an answer.
“Illirian...”
Father was calling him. As if just speaking his name would somehow help.
Couldn’t bear to meet Father’s searching eyes. Didn’t want to acknowledge the emptiness within; didn’t want to acknowledge the darkness where laughter once glowed.
Mamma... why?
“Illirian, please...”
Didn’t want to hear the regret in Father’s voice either, nor the unspoken apology. Didn’t want Father to apologise. Didn’t want Father to understand, either -- because then, at least there would be some reason to justify the presence of anger, of pain.
Why did you leave me... in silence...?
