Synopsis: Nara
The world is all but destroyed. Nuclear war and disease have been rampant across the world for decades. The only safe haven is Europe, relatively untouched by the disaster, but ruled by an oppressive, technology hating, magic hating, hybrid mutant hating corporation known as Oppenheim. While the European powers squabbled for control of the continent, Oppenheim formed its capital city on what used to be the French-German border. What's left of the population after nuclear war and civil war live under the safety of Oppenheim City. Nara, a talented young teenager living in the outer city of Oppenheim is discovered tinkering with her robots and old Victorian artifacts. She is forced into slavery by the government, but her free spirit won't be caged. The torture is getting too much, and the slavework is tedious and annoying. What will she do now?
Excerpt: Nara
"“You insignificant wench! I'd rape your brains out if you weren't so damn valuable. You blew out my ear drums and burned my face. You're going to pay!” He triggered the electrostimulus as he said the last part, causing a short arc of electricity to shoot out. “Feel the pain!” He cackled maniacally as he shoved the rod of the electrostimulus into her ear and jerked the trigger forcefully. Time slowed momentarily and Nara could hear the charge of electricity building from the cord, up through the handle and then straight into her ear. Time sped up again and she screamed, filled with intense pain. The taskmaster kept laughing as volts flowed into her body. 'I'm going to die,' she thought, 'he's going to kill me.' The pain was still there, but Nara felt herself becoming warm. A small light appeared in front of her and the world became silent. A new sound came out of the light, quiet at first, but it grew quickly. The sound was as if the flames of a massive bonfire were being fanned by a sail. Suddenly Nara was back in reality, the electricity burning the side of her face. She felt a large amount of energy fill her body completely, and once she was brimming over with energy, more tried to enter. She felt the urgent need to release the energy, or she knew that she'd explode. She took a deep breath and released all the pain, noise, and energy straight out of her body. The room exploded in flames in response to her release and all of the other people in the room fell to the ground screaming in pain as flames licked up their arms and legs and engulfed their heads.
The table restraints easily burned off and Nara stood, emanating pure heat and fire. She grabbed the electrostimulus and attempted to open the door, but it wouldn't budge. She felt the energy welling up again so she directed all of it at the door in front of her. The door catapulted off of its hinges and slammed into the wall across from it, breaking through and leaving a flaming rectangle where it had impacted. She walked out into the hallway and then began a search of the building for her bag and robots. Anyone she encountered besides the slaves was instantly engulfed in flame, and she left a flaming set of footprints behind and on every wall that she blasted through, she left debris."
Excerpt 2
“It's an old Victorian timepiece. You open it by clicking that button there.” She said, hoping that he would be curious enough to look at the time. He pushed the button to open it and released a small booby trap that Nara had built into all of the watches if they weren't opened correctly. A long, thin knife shot out as the lid opened up and embedded itself right between the man's eyes. He looked over at her, surprised, as he fell to the ground. She ran over quickly and stole the bag and clock back. She hugged the bag protectively and then withdrew a small round device from a secret pocket inside of the main pouch. She pulled down the top of her shirt to reveal a small metallic dock hanging between her chest from a necklace, and fastened the round device to it. She hid near the door and rotated the device clockwise, activating it and making her invisible. As she waited for someone to come retrieve her she pulled out a small slingshot and a pouch of small metal balls. She loaded one into the slingshot and pulled it back, fastening it to a small piece lower down on the handle that held it in place. She pushed a couple more balls in place, loading the first ones back into the handle through the fastening rod.
The door swung open and two heavily armed guards in light armor rushed through. She noticed similar cloaking devices attached to their suits, and understood why she hadn't seen them before. She discerned that the back of their necks were the weakest part exposed, and fired off two quick shots so that she could escape. As each metal ball released it spun very quickly and small blades popped up, out of the sides. They embedded into both of the target's necks, right on target, and as Nara ran out of the room she heard the small but powerful explosive she had built into each one ignite and destroy the spinal column. Both guards were dead instantly.
