For a few seconds, Shiara didn’t move. She was just too overwhelmed by how quickly her life had come to an end. A week ago she had been a princess royal, whose only cares in the world had been what to wear that day. Now? Now she was nothing.

“Shiara!” The gravely voice of Verleet hissed quietly from behind her, “Run!”

That one word unlocked something inside the former princess. Whatever had come before this, whatever she had done. Whatever her future held, no matter how brief. At this moment, she was alive, and she wanted to stay that way.
