“Elaine? Dear God woman – where the hell are you?” Michael’s startled voice rang out as he rushed towards the spot where she had been standing. Everyone had been arguing about where to spend the night when Elaine, bored from a repetition of the same argument that began almost immediately after the midday meal, had started to wander off. Everyone else was still recovering from the previous day’s successful hunt. The men had gotten tired of carrying the extra food and had insisted on making everyone eat as much as possible. Better to carry in inside than out, Evan has said.
