Switching Souls
an excerpt
Angela could remember everything before the accident. She had been sitting in the diner with Erin, talking about stupid things. It had been two AM. What the Hell had they been doing in a diner at two AM anyway? But as soon as Angela would begin to wonder this it would all come rushing back. They had wanted pancakes. And, being collage students, it had made perfect sense for them to go on a pancake run in the middle of the night. Naturally, neither one of them got pancakes. No, they both got burgers. Even thinking about it, Angela could smell they. They had been good burgers. And days later, she could still remember the dialogue. It was all crystal clear.

Angela merely blinked at them. Surely that would be enough to keep them cooing for the next ten minuets. And if it wasn’t, oh well. It was the best they were going to get. She had more important things to worry about then appeasing a set of new parents. Like figuring out why in the name of God she had the body of a newborn. And, more importantly, what she could do about. Angela almost didn’t care how or why it had happened, as long as she could figure out how it fix it. Unfortunately, that was the hardest of all the questions.

“Good. Now hand over my Goddaughter, it’s my turn to hold her.”
“Oh is it now?”
“Yes. I have to get to know her before I go making her ball gown, now don’t I? And maybe she won’t want a pumpkin coach, and would rather have one made out of an acorn. These are very important things for a Godmother to be aware of you know.”
“I hate to break it to you Mel, but you’re a regular Godmother, not a Fairy Godmother. Although you can take Gail prom dress shopping when the time comes.”
“Honestly, Connie. I know I’m not a Fairy Godmother, but I’m hardly regular.”
“Very true, I’m sorry. Now Hank, will you please hand Gail over to her Not Regular Godmother?”
“Of course Sweetie."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Yep, thanks, Hank. Here, hold the baby while I eat.”
“What, relinquishing hold of your “heir”? I’m surprised.”
“Yes, well, sometimes muffins must come before the good of the kingdom. But no worries, I’ll be back for her at dawn.”
“Of course.”
