Excerpt:
I saw myself again to day. This time it was in a child I had just met. I recognized myself as he smiled and waved at me from the back seat as he zoomed off in the car. Other times, it’s a woman who talks too much who mistakes the stunned stare of her companions as genuine interest as she continues on talking faster and faster oblivious to the attempts of those around her to change her monologue into a conversation. It can even be a guy who is really angry. Like the guy at Museum Station I saw once. He was walking toward the end of the platform yelling for his girlfriend to walk away but she wouldn’t and when he reached the end and had nowhere else to go he just stood there looking into the tunnel pleading “leave me alone, just walk away, leave me alone, just walk away, leave me alone, just walk away” and I willed for her to walk away as I watched him clenching his fists and his teeth tighter and tighter. But she just kept him blathering at him between his screams for mercy “what’s wrong, what’s wrong, what’s wrong.” I understood his begging, but she doesn’t speak the same language as him and me.
