El Diamante
an excerpt
Brenna sat sobbing quietly in the rows. Catherine sat next to Brenna, staring blankly at the wall, not seeing anything. Tania sat next to her. Samuel wished Tania had not been there; no child should have to see this sort of damnation of her own father, but she had insisted on being present. Now, as Samuel cast his glance out toward the men he knew, to their families that stood beside him, his eyes glanced across his niece – and a cold shudder shook his spine.
She knew.
Her dark eyes, so like Jeremiah’s, he realized for the first time, were fixated on him in a way that he would never forget. Unflinching, cold, estimating.
In that instant, Samuel knew that he had underestimated Tania. She had inherited the gift after all; the malevolent soul of her father had washed through the bloodline to his daughter. Samuel would never be safe while Tania was around.
