The Dragon of the Sea
an excerpt

The ships pulled up beside each other and the captain of the Mermaid stepped forward. He was a robust man with wavy ginger hair, he had on a stained white shirt and odd blue shorts. His feet were bare and his smile was missing some teeth.

"Ah cap'n Ronnne. 'ow good of ya t' sail by," his vioce was oily and sounded like a scratched record.

Owen's tattoo quivered, and he slapped his hand over it, tightening his grip on his flintlock, he clicked off the safety. Tiger glanced at him out of the corner of his eye.

"You are a discgrace to our kind, find a log and hide your head, you glutton pig," Captain Roane's lip curled in disgust, he turned his eyes away from the revolting other.

"No, I like me face, me thinks it looks handsome. C'mon boys let's show these land lubbers what a real pirate does. MAN THE CANONS!"

"I would think twice about that if I were you," Owen had leapt from the rail of the Hurricanes Eye and was perched right in captain Murphy's face, the barrel of his gun aimed at his head.
