Chapter One - excerpt

Charlie wakes up with a start. She is covered in sweat; the sheets of her bed are in a tangled mess with her legs. The tank top and pajama pants she routinely sleeps in are twisted in uncomfortable ways. She squints over at the clock, 3.29am. She groans as she starts to return her clothes and covers to normal. What was she dreaming? It seemed so real to her. She stops for a moment and thinks about the dream, or was it a nightmare? All she can picture are split-second images of things: A forest; someone riding a horse, really fast; a farm; another person in a dark cape. Great, she’s dreaming about vampires, she thinks with a chuckle. She’s had vivid dreams her whole life, but nothing like the one she had tonight. Not only were the images as clear as if she were there, but she could feel what the rider was feeling – well, at least she thinks she it was the rider’s feelings. They could have been anyone’s really.
