The Starflower Saga
an excerpt

“Warning. Gravity well detected. Emergency landing in three minutes.”
Through the view screen she could see the first moon of Dantria, shimmering like a luminescent, malevolent pearl. It was three times the size of Earth’s moon, and had the corresponding gravitational pull. Her ship was currently caught in that pull, being dragged inexorably down to the surface. She could see the surface getting closer and closer, the crater-pocked outlands and the silvery veins of the spaceport. Maybe she would land close enough to the port that they could catch her with tractor beams and being her in safely. Maybe...if she got lucky...
“Warning. Unsafe trajectory for landing. Please adjust course. Warning. Navigational systems are offline. Please adjust course. Nav–“
”Shut up!” she snapped, frustrated at the computer’s contradictory warnings.
The computer chirped in confusion. “Please restate request.”
“Nevermind,” Sirta said softly as the craft began its final descent. The view screen glowed red and the cabin heated up as passing through the moon’s thin atmosphere strained the heat shields to their limits.
She overshot the spaceport by almost three miles. The craft touched down on one wing, bounced, touched down again and slid a ways on its back, coming to rest in the middle of a flat, desolate plain.
The last thing she heard was the computer chirping weakly before it – and the rest of the world – went silent.
