Cason felt his brothers feelings. ‘What’s wrong?’ He asked. ‘I can’t take it anymore. I just can’t. Ever since we were taken from our home there has been nothing but fear and misery. Everybody feels it. Look down the edge and see for yourself.’ Cason joined Jaku at the edge of the pit. ‘Wow, I can even feel their terror coming from all of the way down there.’ The two flinched as they felt an animal get hit by a stone. They fell silent for a moment. ‘I’m going to jump off of this ledge. I’m going to jump off of this ledge and land on that human. I’m going to kill him.’ ‘No! Don’t do that! That’ll just get you killed. If it does kill the human, than us animals will just get an even worse reputation than we already have, and it’ll actually give those humans a reason to abuse us. Jaku, please don’t.’ ‘No, I have to save those terrified animals. Come on, you jump too. That way we will get a sure hit or land twice as hard on that humans neck.’ Cason felt Jaku’s determination and realized that he was really going to do it. ‘Jaku, I’m not going to jump, whatever you say. I really don’t want you to jump, either, but if you must jump, go ahead. I for one, don’t have a death wish.’ Jaku continued to look down into the pit. The intern was almost finished herding the animals into the storm room. He was now right below the area where Jaku was. ‘Goodbye, Cason.’ And with that, Jaku threw himself off of the ledge.
