She tilted her head to the side slightly and Tom recognized the symbolism in this gesture as he had seen it countless times before, both during their fourteen years of marriage and the following three years of their divorce. It said that she thought he wasn’t thinking straight and perhaps if he cocked his head to one side and looked, really looked, then perhaps they would finally see eye to eye and the error of his ways. He couldn’t remember the first time he had seen Francine do this, but he could remember countless instances when he felt the sting of condescension implied by this particular head bob. This was one of those times.
