One Promise Starts It All
an excerpt

The sea sparkled in the early morning as the sun rose over the horizon, illuminating a small rowboat in the middle of the vast ocean along with the young girl sitting in it. The girl was no older than sixteen, but sat upon the boat with the dignity of a seafaring captain. Her short storm gray hair curled outward from her head, hidden under a silver bandana tied under her hair, deep-set hazel eyes peered into the waters below obviously lost in thought, her small frame hunched over the boat’s side, fingers trailing the waters below.
A small bird fluttered across the waves and circled over the small boat. With a long shrilled note, the bird settled itself, waiting for the girl's reaction. With a sigh, the girl waved the bird into flight.
“That’s the third one this week,” the girl snickered lightly, “That boy has the patience of a rabbit on drugs. Guess it’s time to keep that silly promise, eh Shanks?”
