Brief Author Bio:

My name is Andrea and I live on the east coast of virginia and I love to spend a lot of time sewing or hanging out with my boyfriend. I love pink, kawaii, and I Love Lucy.

This is my third year of participating in NANOWRIMO. Although I had known about NANOWRIMO and had been signed up for several years before participating (I was signed up under another name that I can't remember).
In 2007 on October 31rst I was checking my email and saw one from NANOWRIMO. This reminded me of the event and I decided right then that I was going to participate. So the next day I started writing without any clue as to what I was going to write about and I finished out the month with 50,700 words. I had so much fun that year!
Last year I was unable to reach the 50,000 word goal but have been looking forward to trying again this year.

Excerpt (From the LAST page):
“Let me have your hands,” I said as he put his hands in mine. “Now concentrate very hard. Concentrate on what you want. We want to get out of here.” I squeezed my eyes shut and began to hum.
Anthony joined in. The flames rushed closer and closer to us like a lethal wave, crushing everything in its path.
I had to find the magic that was in me, the magic that was strong enough to conquer anything that came my way. We had to survive. We had to live.
Words began pouring out of my mouth. They were strong. Anthony began to join in and I felt a rush of strength pour over me. Suddenly I felt cooler and empowered. My mind was only focused on the words, the words that came within me.
Then exhaustion overcame me once more and I fell backwards, Anthony following me. He lay on top of me, choking and gasping for air. Still I felt different. It wasn’t hot anymore. I opened my eyes and as the earth spun in front of me I began to cry, but joyfully.
“Look Anthony,” I said. “We made it.”
He slowly opened his eyes. In front of us, below the hill we were lying on, was the kingdom. The palace was sitting in the middle of flames, all four of the forest being encompassed. Anthony fell over onto his back and cried.
I heard yelling and then a hand on my forehead. I looked up and saw Mother and Father standing over us. Mother cried and grabbed onto me, kissing my face.
“How did you get here?” Father asked. “It’s impossible.”
“Nothing is impossible,” I choked out.
We all held onto each other and looked out at the horrific site.
“Our home,” Mother whispered in tears.
I knew right then that my life had changed in so many ways. I was thankful that I would have the chance to live on, but heart broken for all those who were not as lucky as my family and I.
I realized that you can’t let one day pass you by without loving someone, without helping someone, without learning as much as you can.
I laid my head back down on the cool green grass and slid my hand into Anthony’s.

Excerpt from the First page:

It was ironic to me that the real story started here. At the time it did not seem like a beginning. In fact it was the end, the end of someone great.
I stepped through the wide door way located in the back of an old Baptist church. The sanctuary was filled with people, old and young. A large ceiling towered above me, the craftsmanship was beautiful, large wooden beams crisscrossed each other. To the front of the room was a large, cherry wood podium with a cross carved into the front. In front of the podium was a white, wooden casket with an American flag draped over the top.
Less than one year ago a close friend of mine, Charlie, left on a deployment for the war. I stared over at the casket; this is how he returned home. World War two had claimed the life of a brave soldier and a wonderful man.
Tears began to slide down my cheeks when I thought of the days of our childhood, running through the school yard, hide and seek at my parents house, dances, and church events. I had known him a long time. Nineteen was too young of an age for him to die.
“Lucy,” I heard someone call my name. I scanned my eyes around the crowd and saw a hand waving to me from one of the pews to the left of me. It was, Daniel, my best friend and the guy I was going steady with. He was eighteen, two years older than me, he was tall and muscular. He had sandy blonde hair that fell down to his ears and dark green eyes.
I scooted through the crowd and over to the pew where he was sitting. He was sitting in the middle of the pew so I had to squeeze past several people’s knees, saying excuse me to everyone I bumped into, which was all of them. Pews are not exactly spread far apart from each other.
When I sat down Daniel put his arm around me a squeezed my shoulder. “You okay?”
I turned and looked at him. He brushed a tear off my cheek with his rough finger. “I’ll be all right.”
Daniel and Charlie had been close friends as well although Daniel had not known Charlie as long as I had. Daniel had moved to our small town five years ago, in 1940.

Synopsis: Cavern Tour

Julia Rose needed to get away from life at home. She took a vacation to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and decided to visit one of the caverns that dug it’s way under ground. During the tour there was a terrible cave in that trapped the people in her group from getting out. Julia is left to care for a young girl whose mother went missing during the cave in. After seeing a small tunnel in the cave, the survivors crawl and squeeze their way through it in hopes of finding a way out. When they get to the end of the tunnel they are happy to find that they are above ground, but something is different. They have stumbled into a magical world full of elves, giants, dragons, and mystical creatures of all kinds.
They fall strangely in love with this place. All seems perfect, there is no suffering here and no death. They don’t want to leave until Emily, the small girl, goes missing. After searching for her they find that the place is not at all what it seems. Can they rescue Emily and find a way to make it back to their own world?
This is a story of romance, love, loss, and friendship.

Excerpt: Cavern Tour

When they got closer to the edge of the forest they could no longer see Tom and Emily. “Where did they go?” Julia asked.
“I don’t know,” Charley said, looking around.
They entered the woods and Julia called out, “Tom? Emily?”
“Shhh,” she heard some one say. She looked around and saw Tom and Emily crouched down behind a large over turned tree.
Charley and Julia walked over a crouched down behind the tree next to them. “What’s going on,” Charley whispered.
“Piggy,” Emily said, pointing off in front of her.
“Where,” Julia said, looking out where Emily had pointed.
“Right there,” Emily said, pointing again.
Julia looked out again through the trees and squinted her eyes. Off in the distance she could see a small pig walking on two legs in front of a straw house. He was wearing a hat and overalls.
“Is that pig wearing clothes?” Charley whispered.
“I think so,” Tom whispered back. “Though from everything we have seen so far, this really doesn’t surprise me.”
“He’s just like in the book,” Emily whispered.
“What do you mean?” Julia asked.
“The book Mommy reads me before bed,” she said.
“What book?” Tom asked.
“The piggy book book,” Emily said. “With the bad bad wolf.”
“You mean the big bad wolf?” Charley asked.
Emily nodded.
“Great,” Tom said. “I bet a wolf is going to come along any minute and blow this guys house down.” Tom had said it sarcastically but a minute later a wolf crouched his way through the trees towards the pig.
“Oh no,” Emily said, hugging onto Julia. “Look.” She pointed to the wolf who crept his way closer to the pig.
“Of course,” Tom said, throwing his hands up in the air.
“Oh dear,” they heard the pig squeal. The pig ran into his house and slammed the door behind him. They could see him peaking his head through the window of the house.
“Open up,” the wolf called.
“No way,” shouted the pig. “Do you think I’m an idiot?”
“Do you really want me to answer that?” the wolf said in response.
The pig ducked down beneath the window.
“If you don’t open up then I will just blow your house down and get you.”
“You don’t scare me,” the pig shouted, his voice quivering.
The wolf stood up on two legs and took a deep breath. With one blow the wolf was able to blow the entire house of straw down.
The pig, who was now standing in a pile of straw that used to be his home, had his eyes covered with his front hooves.

“I don’t believe this,” Tom said. “We stepped right into a fairy tale.”
“I’m scared,” Emily whispered. “Is the bad bad wolf going to eat him?”
“In some versions,” Tom said.
They continued to watch the wolf and the pig. The pig was shaking, his knees knocking. He uncovered his eyes and saw the wolf standing in front of him with a sly look on his face.
“I told you,” the wolf said.
“Yipe,” the pig squealed and took off running through the woods. The wolf quickly followed behind him.
