The Nice Guy
an excerpt

Feeling rather lonely, he headed over and sat by Miranda and Tristan. Felix sat across from the two over the eating table and glanced to see what Tristan was doing. He was writing another poem. Occasionally, Tristan would start tapping his pencil, but he was concentrating mainly on his poem.
Miranda looked over at Felix and smiled. “He thinks he’s writing a new legendary poem” she said. Felix got back up and stood between the two. He could smell the perfume that Miranda was wearing, an elegantly vibrant smell with a tangy sweetness to it.
Over Tristan’s shoulder, he started to read to poem.

Love is the gamble of life
To bet ones happiness and security
All placed on the hopes of another
Odds against us
Fate guiding us to lose. . .

“Do you understand it?” Tristan said, while blocking Felix’s view of the poem. The poet took off his reading glasses and looked back at Felix. After thinking of a bit, Felix didn’t have an answer and kept quiet. Tristan smiled and went back to writing his poem.
