It is falll in a small town near the coast of the atlantic. In a small oprphanage, called st. agnus’, near the edge of the town a quiet breeze flows through the pine branches and brings the leaves on the nearby trees to the ground. Among these leaves there are chipmunks and squireels playing and rolling around, along with a young girl who seems to be talking to the squirrela and playing with them. She is alone as all of the other children can be seen in the background playing on the newly built, shiny playset and swings, but she seems content merely to be alone with her animal friends. In the second story window of the nearby building two people can be seen watching over the children, asif they were their own. One is dressed as a nun, with her habit and black and white, while the other is dressed in a casual attire. As they smell the scent of the leaves and hear the joyful cries of the children below they discuss the one girl who isn’t playing with the others.
“that girl needs to get some friends , it is unhealthy for her to be that alone. All she does is play with those squirrels all day, one day she will run off and try to live as one” said the nun with a strict and severee tone in her voice.
“Ohh, Katherine you are too up-tight,,”replied the man in the casual dress, “ she has to cope with much more than you ever had to, if this is how she deals with it, by befriending the animals instead of humans let her be that way. It isn’t like she doesn’t like humans, she just prefers to the company of animals. You should see her during their lunch time, she easily converses with everyone around her as if they were long-time friends, and everyone talks to her. “
“I still think there is something weird about her, are you sure she isn’;t mentally retarded? “answered the nun as she turned away from the window and looked into the man’s cool clue eyes.
“do you remember the test we gave them a month or two ago? It was an Iq test disguised as a fun test, we wanted to see if we did have any mentally retarded children among us so we could get them to proper facilities, well she took the test just as everyone else did. But unlike them she scored over a one-hundred and eighty. Do you realize that as she grows her intelligence will mature even more? “the man said as he turned to the nun and stared her directly in the eyes, with a gleam and glint in his eyes “she may be eccentric, but in no way is she mentally handicapped. She could easily out wit any of us and she is almost 10 years old.”
