Excerpt: Cows in the Pasture

As if not to be rushed by the dark clouds, the giant ball of bright sun lazed on the horizon and appeared to shine brighter than it had all day. The cows squinted away from the sun, their eyes too sensitive to stand the streaks of light piercing through the gaps in the trees and grass. With one last lazy sigh, the sun gave up its grand show and reluctantly sank below the horizon, retreating to its bed on the other side of the world, leaving only but a glimmer of light as if to remind the land not to forget it overnight.
