You would have thought that twenty years apart would have meant that they had a lot to talk about. Instead they sat across the table from each other, hands clasped around mugs of steaming coffee, and stared over each other’s shoulders. The silence was not a comfortable one, but the stubbornness with which they preserved it was familiar to both. They had done this before. They probably would not have the chance to do it again.
