Brief Author Bio: I am a Stay-AT-Home mom trying to get published, but I am also a female gamer(*gasp!*) married to a guy gamer, trying to raise a Baby Girl Gamer. In 2007, I tried NaNoWriMo, but being a brand-new mom(my daughter was barely 6 weeks old by then!), I was just too tired to stick with it! Last year, Oct 2008, I flew right by the 50,000 word deadline and wrote 53,546 words a few days before the Nov 1st deadline! I actually won NaNoWriMo! This year, I wasn't planning on doing it, as I had no ideas or outlines or anything, until an idea literally came to me while I was in the middle of a fabulous dream! I also have a writing buddy who is the children's librarian at my local library who might want to participate this year. She and I are both serious writers working on sending things in for publication. Since my family does not celebrate or participate in Halloween, I will be anxiously awaiting the invisible (to all but serious NanO-ers) 12 am "go!" horn this year so I can be off writing before everyone else is! I may not have time to do NaNoWriMo next year, so I want to enjoy it this year! (I am now 3 months pregnant!) |

Excerpt: The Curse of the Magic Ink Pen and Invisible Paintbrush
She wasn't sure when she first discovered this power, but she vividly remembered when she first started really testing it:
It was a late evening, after she came home from her all-girls' school. She was board, and lonely, and missing her deceased cat. She had been feeling a tingling in her wrists and fingers all day, kinda like they do when you have been writing or typing for too long. She carefully removed a well-worn photograph of her old Siamese, and tenderly kissed it. She began tracing the outline of her wonderful old cat as she so often did when she missed her. Suddenly, the tips of her fingers got red-hot, and started to take on a life of their own. She lifted her burning index finger, and began to retrace the image of her cat she had just traced from the photo. Slowly, the image in the air began to take shape, to fill and color. She carefully used her fingers as she would a charcoal pencil and began sketching in the fur, and her sapphire eyes. When she was done, her pet came to life, healthy and whole and as real as she was!
Natalie smiled at the old memory, and traced the face of her brother. He had been killed in the war some two years past, and she missed him a lot. She was a bit nervous about trying her special skill. Up until now, all she had ever re-created was her Siamese cat, (who was currently sleeping at the foot of her bed) and her favorite sweater (which had gone missing at a school dance a few months prior) both the cat and the sweater became just as real as she had remembered, and in the case of the sweater, all stains and imperfections where gone.
Her cat was whole and healthy, and young again, without the deadly kidney disease that had taken her life.
Natalie, fingers trembling with both nerves and power, began to sketch her brother's face..She had no idea what would happen, nor if it would work on a human being, but she had to try.
She could not live with herself if she didn't try!
