an excerpt

A short hallway at the bottom of the staircase ended at the edge of a swimming pool. It didn’t look to be more than eight feet deep, but in every direction beyond them, it extended for eternity. Even the curvature of the planet seemed to have no effect on it, as there was no horizon, but rather a thin line of blackness where the pool and ceiling above it could no longer remain as separate entities to their eyes. Fixated on the spectacle that was the endless waters, it took Zack a moment to notice that the roof, which rested nearly fifty feet above the pool without any support other than the infinite concrete wall that blossomed from the hallway, was transparent. It was tinted, causing the little light that seeped through to make the water appear brown. The light was rippling steadily, in waves. Waves.

“Oh my God,” Zack stuttered, his voice cracking, “We’re … that’s … we’re under the ocean.”

His friend was left speechless.
