Synopsis: The Crypt

Sixteen-year-old Clary, still grieving the tragedy that ended her first serious relationship, likes Thad better than anyone else at her elite new boarding school--but she tries to rein in her feelings, knowing he doesn’t share them. When Ren, an odd but compelling new student, prevails upon Thad to search the school archives for a rare crystal said to be stored there, Clary offers to help; being Thad’s sidekick is better than nothing. The search for the crystal is aborted when Clary inexplicably vanishes. The police proceed on the assumption that she’s run away or been kidnapped, but Thad suspects an even more terrifying scenario, and he’s determined to unravel the true reason for her disappearance. Clary, thrust into a world of peril, struggles to survive. If she ever hopes to see Thad again, she must outwit the vampire-like moroi, creatures who control the crystals that make time travel possible. But she can’t do it alone--and figuring out who to trust can be almost as difficult as deciding who to love.
