Singing In The Dark
an excerpt

Julie hurried into the small locker room with half an hour to put her bag away and get changed before the concert. She hummed quietly to herself as she unlocked her cabinet and dropped her bag inside. It was only as she reached for her pastel blue dress that she heard someone crying softly nearby.

"Hello?" She called out.

There was no reply, but the crying seemed to stop. She frowned slightly and made her way around the lockers to the benches. A young woman was sitting on the farthest one with her head bowed. Her silky hair hung down, hiding her face.

"Vicky?" Julie went over to the woman and sat down beside her. "What's wrong?"

Vicky shook her head as she raised a hand to her face. "It's nothing."

“You know you can talk to me right?” Julie persisted gently.

“Yeah, I know, I just can’t tell you this time.” Vicky sighed.
