Synopsis: Closin' Time
Based off of No.34's Adopt-A-Plot from 2007:
A person is found dead; amongst his/her belongings a letter is found which says that if they are ever killed, suspect Main Character, who also happens to be this person's worst enemy. The main character, however, definitely did not kill this person, despite numerous pieces of evidence to the contrary. See, the person committed suicide as a final act of revenge against the main character, and now it's up to him, under constant scrutiny by the authorities, to exonerate himself.
Excerpt: Closin' Time
Della walked into the bar, not really expecting all that much from the small college town’s only non – school – related hangout in town, but hoping that it wouldn’t be full of angry townies. Her co-worker Andrea had promised that it was a nice place, other than the fact that it was named Azzinaro’s, which Della couldn’t seem to get past the mob connection that her brain was making. Too many episodes of the Sopranos have infected my brain, she thought. But, she made a resolution when she moved here that she would go out and make some friends even if it killed here, so Azzinaro’s it was.
Andrea glanced over her shoulder to smile at Della as she flashed her identification, Della following by showing him hers as well. Della started to fish around her front pocket for a cover as the bouncer smiled grandly at the two of them and waved them past.
“No cover?” Della whispered.
“Nah, they only charge a cover when there’s a band playing, and even then, Tommy’s had a crush on me for a couple of months, so I can usually get away without one anyway.” Her friend responded. Della forced herself to think of Andrea as a friend, not just a coworker, otherwise she wouldn’t have come out with her. She didn’t really know anyone in this town that she didn’t work with, outside of her across the hall neighbor, Elise, who seemed to go out of her way to be overtly friendly with Della. Since she had moved “Up North”, as her grandmother said, she hadn’t expected such a warm reception from a neighbor or her coworkers as she had received.
“Come on, Della,” Andrea pulled at her hand, “I’ve got to introduce you around to the boys.”
“The boys?”
“Oh, yeah, the boys.” Andrea smiled widely. “Make friends with the boys, and you’ll be very well taken care of.” She grabbed two barstools near the back of the large room, close to the bathroom hallway. Andrea placed her purse on the back, then quickly spun around to face away from the bar, waving at a few people. “Very well taken care of.” She turned again to face the bar again after Della had sat down.
