The Story of Narkon

Lance woke to the sound of distant screams. The seemingly tiny voices pulled him from the lull of his dreams and into the waking world. When he opened his eyes he saw a faint orange glow seeping in the window; its flickering light dimly illuminated his bedchamber. He sat up, pushed the blankets off, and walked over to look out the window.
Below his window Haruman City spread off into the distance, a city mostly dark at this time of night. The source of the orange glow came in the form of several burning buildings near the far outer wall. The distant screams came from the multitudes of people who were attempting to flee from the fires. In the darkness Lance could not see very well, but he could tell that the people rushing away were in a panic. Fires in the city were rare, but not unheard of and were generally taken care of before they spread too far. Fire was a cause for alarm, but there was an orderly evacuation system and Lance could not understand why there was a stampede to get away.
As he took a closer look, he saw several dark shapes repelling down the outer wall. Invaders inside the city! There were already several gathered in the streets in front of the burning buildings, silhouetted against the fire.
