The Mayonnaise Effect; or, Hamster Wheels of the Gods
an excerpt
Though all dogs rose vertically and all dogs disappeared, their manners of disappearance varied. Most people just saw their pets abruptly vanish, but some people reported that their dogs simply faded away slowly, piece by piece. More than a few shocked individuals described how their dogs had “discorporated” into separate, wriggling pieces before evaporating; for example, a veterinarian from Minneapolis died of a heart attack after witnessing a bull mastiff, which he had been deworming, appear to be quietly blown to bits, with the pieces whizzing right out of an open window like a swarm of angry bees.
