A Loving Reqiuem: Between the Wasteland And the Sky
an excerpt

Wrest had been in his room, rewrapping his bandages when the first of his alarms went off. He hobbled over to his desk and stared into the computer screens there. He scowled as men in Russian Look-alike BDUs stormed his back yard. But what terrified him for the first time in a while was that he heard a knock and when he looked he saw the girl he had confronted the night before standing there, and captured by one of the men. Wrest heard the front door open as he scrambled to put on his clothes in which his weapons and gadgets were hidden. He crept slowly down the hall and peeked over the railing of his second story balcony. He always got the mansion like houses for a reason. They were easy to booby-trap, and defend. He slowly cocked the hammer on his hand-gun, the sleek red and black piece of machinery clicked softly. Wrest always had his favorite weapons and his disposable weapons. And this one, named Fire, Was one of a pair of handguns, the other in its holster on his chest. He took a slow breathe and looked over, bringing the notch on the muzzle to bear on the man about to shoot Eve, and fired.

Eve had backed into a corner to hide from the gun fire. She was crying. The tears ran down her face as she recited the Pater Noster over and over again. There was a sudden silence. She looked up; having only realized it was quiet after a few moments. She crawled forward slowly, peeking around the corner. Eve stood slowly, her legs quaking. She grimaced as she began to walk. Wet panties didn’t give the best of feelings as you walked. She came across a closed door with a few holes in it. A part of her mind registered that they were bullet holes before she pushed the door open, and promptly vomited. There was blood everywhere. In the middle of what was the front room, a massive puddle of blood had gathered at the base of a set of stairs. Eve fought to not gag as she stumbled across body parts strewn about by the explosions she had heard. Eve laid her hand on the foyer door and vomited again. She couldn’t believe there was so much blood. “I’m sorry you had to be a part of that.” Eve spun around at the sound of his voice. She saw him standing in the middle of the room, leaning on the bloody banister as he shuffled through a stack of papers.
“I told you to stay away from me. Why is it that you damn fan girls never listen?”
