Synopsis: Backspace
My novel will be about memory. About the first ones, the ones you thought you could never forget, and about losing them all.
Excerpt: Backspace
Tavia is 31 years old. She is well dressed, or well put together. She has brushed her teeth. She is sitting on the bench like she knows exactly what she's doing and why. Like she belongs there. That is what she looks like. She has makeup on, and has done her hair.
Tavia heard on the radio two years ago that you can't lose just some of of your memory. That if you couldn't remember your own name, or where you lived, you would also have forgotten how to tie your shoe.
Tavia can still tie her shoe, but has no idea where her house is.
Tavia Stewart sits on a park bench in the middle of Golden Gate Park. It is dusk. She is remembering her life. She has forgotten her name. She pulls out a note from her jacket pocket. The note she pulls out of her pocket says, "My Name is Tavia Stewart."
She reads the note once, and then again. She can't believe it.
