Grasping For Dawn
an excerpt

Slaying vampires for a living doesn’t leave much room in one’s life for a hobby.

Unlike your average human being, your waking hours are not spent in capitalistic bliss, but instead are spent desperately grasping for sleep, breaking into coffins, combing for leads, and praying for just five more minutes of daylight. It doesn’t help matters that I basically live a nocturnal existance.

Throw in the fact that standard issue slaying gear tends to make most people question my sanity and/or my ability to differentiate between Halloween and the other three hundred and sixty four days of the year, and it's easy to see why slayers lives tend to revolve around the profession.

Luckily for me, when you’re DJing, no one gives a shit what time you go to bed or what you’re wearing.

Nobody questions the jet-black attire or the various straps and cinches that tend to run up and down my arms and legs, nor does anyone question the thirty-something pound bag of what sounds like metal pipes. When you’re mixing tracks, all anyone cares about is what sounds you make.
