Excerpt: The painter of fancy

The Painter. A young man gets a place at the Royal Academy of Art in London and becomes one of England's best known artists in the 1930's. Reclusive by nature he still lives with his parents, his mother an impoverished daughter of the Count of Surrey and his father a son of a prominent and leading figure in Irish protestantism.
He found his love in the talented Evelyn, who as a woman was not allowed to enter the Academy. He teaches her after college and secretly they make plans for the future. Until Nazi-ism begins to put a shadow over their romance. He's to leave with the Royal Navy and fight in France in 1942. Having not yet been married and pregnant, Evelyn finds it hard to live under the scrutinity of her fellow citizens. The Painter ultimately dies in the war in 1945 and Evelyn is left to raise their daughter alone. Amalia grows up and becomes a rebellious teenager leaving Evelyn's household at a young age to go and tour with some band members she has aquired. It is the 60s and she's in her 20s. One party after another until she breaks up with her rock'n'rolla boyfriend and right there after inherits the beautiful mansion of her grandmother, whom she has never met, and who has died recently. All of her fathers paintings are there. She quickly moves into the old house, having no other place to go and reastablishes her contact with her mother. Amalia > or Amy for friends < is pregnant, too. Like her own mother she's soon to be a single mother though through different circumstances. In the old house Amy often feels a bit creepy about someone or something staring at her. Once the baby is born all will be revealed. the father she had never known finds a way back into her life, and how!!
