Excerpt: Glory
Everyday is the same here.
I wake with sun as it shines through the dirty window onto my face, and what I guess to be about an hour later the door is opened a crack and a small of food - if you could even call it that - is pushed through towards me. I eat the measly meal ravenously, for by then I haven't eaten for over twelve hours, which if the food I ate was proper wouldn't matter, but the meals aren’t proper, and it does matter now. I sit then in my room for a few hours, either making my own amusement or else suffering from boredom until it is lunchtime, and another meal is pushed through the door.
I never find out who gives me my meals, in fact, I haven't seen anyone in exactly seventeen days - I counted - but I know there are people around. The walls are thin, and if I strain my ears I can pick up a word, maybe two, but often it's useless as all I can make out is mumbling sounds.
I still don't know my crime for being here though, something about being a spy for someone else, and despite my cries and pleas that I wasn't a spy, I was locked up until further notice.
Today is different though.
