Circus Girl
an excerpt
We all sat around the camp fire, laughing as Morgan teased Oliver. Suddenly, I heard a noise, like something being thrown, or blown, towards me. I felt the dart hit my neck and drifted into unconciousness.
I drifted on a black sea, the sky a bright, blinding white above me. I floated, not knowing who or where I was, but feeling an excruciating pain. All I knew was that the epicenter of the pain was my chest; more specifically, my lungs. They felt as if they were on fire. I gasped for air, and screamed as I began sinking into the choppy black waters.
When I woke up, the world seemed twisted and distorted. I felt something cold and metal around my wrists and my ankles. I blinked a few times, and could then see my surroundings. Barely. I was in a dark cage, and my feet were chained to the bars behind me. My hands were hand cuffed in front of me. I groaned, frustrated. Of course I got myself locked up... in a cell that barely gave me room to move.
"Jazzy? Is that you?" I sighed in relief. I turned, looking into the cell next to mine. I could see Annie's face looking scared and hopeful.
"Annie? Where are we?"
