Things haven't just changed at school, they've also changed at home. My dad got laid off last month. Now my mom has to work all the time. I rarely see her but when I do its like looking at a stranger. I don't think she even knows who I am anymore. My dad sleeps all the time, probably to hide his stubborn side.
All I can think about is Amy. Why would she sit with me when she knows about me? I bet its a joke. What a cruel joke though. She wouldn't do that though... at least I don't think she would.
The rest of the day at school, Amy said hi to me. In front of everyone. Joke. Definitely. She sits with me at lunch. I keep looking at her wondering why she would be this cruel. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore.
"Why are you doing this? Is this some sort of joke? Something to me you look confident? What?"
"Are you okay?", she asked
"No I'm not. You sit with me, making me think you actually want to be my friend. But then it hits me. How could I be so stupid. This is a joke, isn't it?"
"A joke? That's what you think? God. You are stupid. But if you want to think that, fine. I won't stop you and you won't stop me from leaving."
Amy picked up her stuff and stormed out. Was I wrong? No. She wasn't for real... but I did lose a potential friend. Now I'm alone. Again. I'm used to it though.
