Synopsis: Angel Food Cake
ARIA is the first non-generation group produced by Sugar & Spice Entertainment, a company that specialises in female idols. In ARIA's three years of existence, they've changed members at least five times and been put on several month-long hiatuses. Only three of the original members remain, the unreliable leader Takahashi Rena among them. The company's founder, Ms. Peyton Rossi, decides that adding a new member, untainted by Rena's influence, should stabilise the group. Two trainees are told that they will be debuting as soloists, when they're really competing to be ARIA's newest member. And of course, Rena won't let things go according to plan, always seeking to make things more interesting.
Yoshida Kagami has been a trainee at Sugar & Spice for four years, leading a small backdancing group known as KANDII. She never expected to debut, constantly shooting down the rest of her group when they suggest otherwise, so she's surprised when she's singled out to debut...solo. Kato Erika is two months into her stint at the same company and often swears she'll be happy when she actually gets to do something more than get bullied by prepubescent idols, even if it's just backdancing. She's shocked to find herself on the road to debut and the sudden target of publicity attacks by Kagami, who is determined to take her chance to reach number one. Both girls take their debuts seriously and have no idea that they're being played with, causing an even bigger power struggle than before...

"Did you know?" Natsuki asked, the second the door opened to reveal Kagami. "Did you know you were going to debut, Kagamin?"
"Of course she knew," Akane snapped, gaze showing her hurt as she glared. "Why else would she keep telling us off like that? She knew she was going to debut but WE weren't!"
"It isn't like that at all." Kagami folded her arms and started to pack her things into her bag, stumbling forward when someone's bottle hit her back. She whirled around to see who did it, surprised to find that it was Iori of all people. "Iori-chan, you should know better than anyone that we don't have a choice. When Rosshi-sama tells us to do something, we either do it or we quit. I love doing this and just because I'm debuting doesn't mean you guys aren't my friends."
"Friends...but we won't be a unit," Izumi piped up, finally looking up from her phone display to frown at Kagami. "You've been here since the start, with me and Natsuki and Dae. Even though some of us changed in and out, you were always here."
"And if I quit, you would never see me again. I don't understand how my debuting with our company is worse than me quitting and never contacting you again."
Akane glowered and stared at the floor, while Izumi guiltily looked back at her phone. Iori moved over to Kagami to pick up her bottle, still looking upset. Even Natsuki and Dae didn't look very settled, despite both being the peacekeepers of the group. They weren't sure what they could do in this situation. It was something neither had ever experienced before this.
"We know you'll see us again," Natsuki eventually said, hesitating as if she wasn't sure what she would say next. "But it isn't going to be the same, Kagamin. Once you debut, you won't have time for us. We'll be your kouhai and you won't be able to pay as much attention to us as you usually do. It's just not going to be the same, even if you want to think that it will."
