Excerpt: Treason
...Digging through the saddle bags, she found that she had enough supplies to last her a week, if things went well. Also, she found a neatly folded piece of paper.
Curiously she opened it,
"Cassandra,
The reason you were nearly murdered, and I am absolutely appualed by that, is because my father sees you as a threat. He believes that war is imminent between Singanero and the south and that anyone who he find questionable should be rid of before they can be any use to his enemies. There was no other reason he sent for you than that."
Stupid! She thought, angry with herself. Should have known Lex would do this. He knew everything...
She was positive he had willingly done this. The way he wouldn't tell her why she had been called back, the way he tried so desperately for her trust again. Hot tears ran down her cheeks. He had done it again, he had broken her trust when she needed him the most. If he had at least tried to help maybe she would not be here. Miserable, lost, and more than ever scared for her life. With a sad whimper she continued to read the letter.
"As I am most certain you know, returning to your home would be the stupidest thing to do, no matter how well hidden you stay. The best place I can think for you would be the south. My father would not dare sending anyone after you once you were there, to be honest he finds his forces inadequate to the numbers amassing beyond his borders. "
The letter stopped there, only a few smudges and splatters of ink scattered across the next line as if the prince had to finish abruptly.
