Don't Know Yet
an excerpt

The drive back to the house was just as lonesome as the drive to the mall. When she got back to her road she tried visiting her neighbors again. Joel and Alice both appeared to be gone. She even tried the Bonnevilles, but there was no answer there either. Finally, Sherrie gave in, if only for fear that something terrible was going on, and began knocking on every door along both sides of the street. Knock after knock the prospects appeared more grim. By the time Sherrie reached the end of the road she was feeling very disturbed. What if something truly bad happened to her right then and there? She couldn't believe that there wasn't even a single person on her street that would be available to help. If she screamed would anyone even hear her? Her dark thoughts ran shudders up her spine and grew goosebumps on her flesh. She turned back toward her house. She watched the squirrels and birds continue in their merry ways.

“I don't think any of you would be able to help me,” she said gloomily to a gray squirrel in front of Alice's house. It didn't stop chewing its nut but kept a cautious eye on her. Sherrie took one more glance over her shoulder before going in through the garage and back into the house. Sherrie didn't want to think anymore about her strange past two days. She put it out of her thoughts and chalked it up to a series of strange, if not nearly impossible events. She thought about the possibilities. I bet stuff like this happens all the time, but people just never pay attention to how slow or busy the world is around them, Sherrie thought to herself. She spent the rest of her Sunday evening reading and drawing as she quickly had grown bored of the TV. She went to bed early, confused and alone.
