Synopsis: Gambled Hearts
How much trouble could two dissolute gamblers possibly get into while hiding a young girl from her irate fiancee in Regency England?
Excerpt: Gambled Hearts
“Wasn’t sure you’d come.” James murmured and Jessica glanced from him to Tristian, then back to James.
“Of course- I can’t not-“ And she lost the words, almost sobbing.
“Hush-“ He laughed a little, wet noises rattling in his chest. “He doesn’t mean to be an ox-“
“James-“ Tristian started to hiss, sounding embarrassed.
“Tristian sees things we don’t.” James explained, ignoring his friend. “Things we don’t want to see- but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t-“ He started coughing again, the force wracking his body. “Shouldn’t see them.”
Tristian cursed under his breath, and Jessica glanced over, seeing the vice-like grip he had on James’ hand.
“James- It doesn’t matter-“ Jessica tried to explain to him, then didn’t want to remind him of his own mortality.
“It does.” James pulled his hand out from under hers, then placed his hand over hers, squeezing her hand weakly, then tracing something over her skin. “Love is always worth seeing.”
