Untitled As of Yet
an excerpt
Her eyes flitted around her office, temptation growing inside her and warming her fingertips. Only two other people were still there, and no one was paying attention to Gessie. She fingered her stack of work thoughtfully before placing her palm of the pile of papers. She used her other hand to pluck a leaf off of the small plant she kept on her desk. A warm light began to glow under her hand as she rolled the leaf between two fingers. The papers flew up for a moment, as if blown up by the wind, but the air in the room was still. Then the glow disappeared, and Gessie threw the leaf, now dead and brown, into a wastebasket at her feet. She paused, having a second thought, and withdrew the evidence from the trashcan. Sure, most people would not even understand the significance, but Gessie was slightly paranoid. Tucking it into a pocket in her red purse, Gessie stood up and started to pull on her cream-colored coat.
