“I thought you said you needed a light?” he asked, coughing slightly.
“I did, thanks,” she replied, taking the matchbook back from him and shoving it into the pocket of Edmund’s jacket.
“And where’d you get the cigarettes? I thought you needed one of those too…”
“From my pocket, of course,” she said casually, leaning against the street lamp again.
“But that’s my pocket…”
“It was your pocket,” she corrected. “But now it’s my pocket.”
“Well, I wasn’t intending on giving it to you forever, you know,” replied Edmund, scratching his head, feeling awkward.
“Then it’ll be your pocket again when I give it back. Or, you know, you could just give me my own jacket.” She looked down at the jacket, and at her dress. “Grey’s not really my color, you know.”
“Well if you’re going to be choosy about color, I’ll take my jacket back right now,” Edmund said, slight irritated at her lack of appreciation for his freezingness. She took another puff of the cigarette.
“Will you give me my own jacket?”
“I’ve only got one, otherwise we’d both have jackets right now,” he replied
